Who it is for

The quiet creeps up on people.

It usually starts small. A friend moves to Florida. Driving after dark stops being worth it. The television goes on a little earlier every afternoon.

Senior Socials is for that stretch of life. Our members are older adults who are still entirely themselves but have run short of places to be, and people to be there with.

What we actually do is not complicated. A van picks you up. There is coffee going by nine. Somebody notices if you do not turn up, and calls to find out why.

Families tell us they notice it most on a Sunday, when there is finally something to talk about.

What is included

One fee, the whole day

Nothing below is an add-on or an extra. It is all simply part of coming here.

  1. The ride

A driver collects you at your door in the morning and walks you back in at the end of the day. The vans take wheelchairs.

  2. Lunch

A hot meal at noon, eaten at tables rather than off trays. Tell us about diabetes, salt, kosher, halal or anything else and the kitchen works around it.

  3. Company

The whole point of the place. Cards, dominoes, arguments about baseball, and a cake whenever somebody has a birthday.

  4. Something to do

Chair exercise mid-morning, then art, trivia, discussion groups, visiting musicians, and a great deal of bingo.

  5. An eye kept

Blood pressure checks, medication reminders, and staff who know what a particular person looks like on a bad day.

  6. A break for you

Six hours in which the person you care for is safe, busy and not your responsibility. Families tend to underrate how much this matters until they have it.

A day here

Half past eight to half past three

  1. 8:30

    The vans pull in

Coffee, tea and something to eat. Most of the day’s talking happens in this first hour.

  2. 10:00

    Chair exercise

Twenty minutes, sitting down, at whatever pace suits you. Nobody is made to do anything.

  3. 10:45

    Morning activity

Art, trivia, a discussion group, or a visitor with something to show everyone.

  4. 12:00

    Lunch

The main event, and the longest thing on the schedule. An hour and a half at the table.

  5. 1:30

    Afternoon

Bingo most days. Live music on Thursdays. Holidays get properly celebrated.

  6. 3:15

    Vans out

Home by four, with a word to whoever is there about how the day went.

What a family told us

She used to sit by the window with the television on. Now she has opinions about who cheats at bingo.
