About us
We opened because somebody's mother needed somewhere to go.
Senior Socials Day Care has run a social adult day care on Union Turnpike in Glen Oaks since [REPLACE year]. This is who we are and how the place actually works.
How it started
[REPLACE founder’s name] spent two years watching a parent shrink into an apartment in Floral Park. Meals arrived. An aide came for two hours in the morning. Nobody came to talk.
The choice on offer was a nursing home she did not need or a living room she never left. Senior Socials opened in [REPLACE year] because there ought to be something between the two.
We began with [REPLACE number] members and one van. The room was smaller then, and by every account the coffee was worse. What has not changed is the basic arrangement: somebody collects you, somebody is glad to see you, and you go home having had a day.

How we do things
Four things we will not compromise on
Nobody is a patient here.
Members are adults with jobs behind them, opinions in front of them, and a say in how they spend the afternoon. We ask people what they feel like doing. Nobody is marched anywhere.
Everybody gets greeted by name.
On the first morning that is a small courtesy. By the second week it is the reason people come. Staff learn who takes sugar, who hates bingo, and who will not admit they are cold.
If you do not turn up, we call.
An empty seat is information. Somebody rings the house that morning, and if we cannot reach anyone we work down the contact list until we do.
Families hear the truth.
If someone is quieter than usual, eating less, or unsteady on their feet, we say so that day. It is not our place to decide what a family does with that, only to make sure they know it.
The people here
Who you will meet
Staff are on the floor all day rather than behind a desk. Several have been here since we opened.
- Program Director
- Runs the floor, meets every prospective family, and knows each member by name and by habit.
- Activities Coordinator
- Plans the week, books the musicians, and is responsible for the fact that nobody is ever bored for long.
- Registered Nurse
- On site during program hours for blood pressure checks, medication reminders and anything that needs a trained eye.
- Drivers
- The same faces every morning. They know which house has the difficult step and who needs an arm to the door.
- Kitchen
- Cooks lunch, remembers who is diabetic without being reminded, and takes it personally when a plate comes back full.
The formal side
Paperwork, briefly
- Registered Social Adult Day Care program operating under New York State requirements. [REPLACE] Add the registration number.
- Staff trained in CPR and first aid. [REPLACE]Confirm which certifications are current.
- Fully insured, with vehicles licensed and inspected. [REPLACE] Confirm.
- A private pay agency. We do not bill Medicaid or Managed Long Term Care plans; families pay us directly at a flat daily rate. [REPLACE] Confirm the rate and the billing cycle.

Come and judge for yourself
Everything above is easier to believe after twenty minutes in the room. Turn up any weekday morning and have a look at the place.
